CASTROL AERO 40

Castrol Aero 40 is a high-quality, mineral-based hydraulic fluid. Designed for landing gear shock struts, Aero 40 has been precisely calibrated to deliver maximum protection for these vital aircraft components.

The product contains a number of key additives that make it perfect for applications related to landing gear shock struts. These include:

  • a highly shear stable viscosity index improver;
  • an anti-oxidant;
  • anti-wear agents, and
  • an approved extreme pressure additive.

This combination serves to reduce martensitic streaking of landing gear outer cylinders and galling of shock strut upper bearings.

Castrol Aero 40 is undyed and straw-coloured to meet Boeing Specification BMS 3-32, Type II.

To get the most from Aero 40, check compatibility with the materials used in shock struts and dispensing equipment, and with other petroleum-based and synthetic hydrocarbon lubricants, before you apply.

CASTROL AERO 40

Castrol Aero 40 Hydraulic Fluid

Castrol Aero 40 hydraulic landing gear shock strut fluid is designed for high performance under any circumstances.

The product has been carefully formulated for landing gear applications and contains a number of key additives, including an approved EP additive that delivers a vital extra layer of protection against wear. Castrol Aero 40 also contains additional anti-oxidant and anti-wear agents to help deliver the maximum longevity for your landing gear.

The fluid meets the following standards:

  • MIL-H-5606
  • MIL-PRF-6083
  • MIL-PRF-5606
  • Boeing 707-SL-12-2
  • Boeing 727-SL-12-2
  • Boeing 737-SL-12-2
  • Boeing 757-SL-27-15-B

In the case of these Boeing Service Letters, choosing Aero 40 removes the need to mix an EP additive into a mineral-based hydraulic fluid. This makes it a more convenient alternative and enables you to protect shock struts and their components faster and more easily.

Check with the material manufacturer or the experts at Broughton Lubricants to ensure the product is compatible with the seals, hoses and paints used in your shock struts and the connected dispensing equipment. It is not completely compatible with synthetic gas turbine lubricants, and while it is generally compatible with petroleum-based and synthesised hydrocarbon lubricants, it’s important to check. Cross-contamination could affect the performance of Aero 40 and counteract the unique properties it was designed to deliver.
