Refractometer
This?Coolant Refractometer??0-18% is an optical instruments which can quickly measure the concentration of aqueous solutions using the principle of the critical angle of refraction, and thus by a very simple operation determine the concentration of a water based metalworking fluid.
Please note you may need to multiply the reading by a refractometer correction factor, if it is anything other than zero. This information can be found on the technical date sheet of the metalworking fluid you are using.
Operation
Calibrate the device by checking a sample of water, which has been left to stand for a period in the room (the calibration should be carried out with water at room temperature) regardless of the measuring temperature. Set the boundary line to zero by using the adjusting screw/ knob. Then measure the sample and note the scale reading, which can be taken as the true concentration value. Variations in room temperature may cause an error, so it is recommended that the zero-setting be checked at intervals of 20 minutes using the test water above.
Although 0-18% offers a good all-round solution for most metalworking fluids, other ranges are available such as 0-10% please enquire.
